Well, where do I start??? I better start from the beginning which would take us back to Wednesday Feb 28. We arrived at the hospital around 7:30am for our c-section that was to take place at 9:30am. My mom and dad got to join us for that fun time before we went into surgery. Those two hours are quite nerve racking. It consists of filling out paperwork, getting my IV, monitoring the baby, and drinking this nasty stuff right before I get wheeled into surgery. As we were waiting for 9:30 to arrive we were told around 8:30 that they were going to take me in early and they would be back to get me in 15 minutes! I think I stopped breathing for a second, and our excitement level jumped up about 10 notches. I ended up going into surgery before 9 and Gabriella arrived at 9:26am. The c-section went well, but it was definitely more difficult than the last two. Maybe part of it is that it is fresh in my mind, but it seemed to be more painful this time. It's pretty bizarre and hard to explain what it's like to be awake during a surgery like that. I go through a whole bunch of Hail Mary's while I lay on that table. Shawn got to announce what the baby was as the doctor pulled her out and my mom got to witness the whole thing too! She was so excited to be there and be a part of this baby's arrival. Now onto "post surgery". This part didn't quite go as I had planned. In the past I haven't had any problems with my recovery after the c-sections, but this time proved to be a bit different. Wednesday I was pretty drugged up all day so it went pretty well, but Thursday I started getting really bad headaches. I don't usually get headaches and have never had a migraine but I was hit with some fierce headaches for the next 3 days. The doctors thought it might be a spinal headache, but we eventually ruled that out. We were released to go home on Saturday afternoon even though I was still in pretty bad shape with my headaches. It was awful! For those of you that suffer from migraines - holy cow - I wouldn't wish those on my worst enemies! We arrived home with Gabriella around 1 or 2, so both Austin and Ashlyn were napping. I had this crazy idea in my head that when we got home they would both be so excited to see us and we would just be one big happy family. Oh boy was I wrong! Austin was fighting hard for attention - he resorted back to biting...yikes...and lots of crying. Ashlyn adjusted a bit better, but also let us know that she wasn't so sure about us bringing Miss Gabriella home with us. Luckily they have both recovered well and are doing MUCH better. Austin is pretty frustrated that I can't pick him up yet, but other than that he is pretty much back to his crazy self. Ashlyn has become best friends with Grandma and is attached to her hip (which I think Grandma secretly LOVES).
So, to sum things up, since this post is getting a bit long and I need to go to bed so that I can get up and feed Gabriella in 2 hours...we had a rocky start but we are doing much better now! I wasn't sure if we were going to make it for awhile, but somehow we survived and are on the mend! (Most of the credit is probably due to Grandma Settle, but that's a whole other post - you'll get to hear about that later) Gabriella is doing great - she is nursing like a champ and is just beautiful. It's so amazing how much they change in the first week. Shawn is constantly telling my mom how much she looks like her (I think he is just buttering her up so she'll babysit). Last night Gabriella slept in four hour intervals!! YIPEE! We'll see if she can do it two nights in a row...yeah right...Austin and Ashlyn are getting use to her being around, Ashlyn loves to hold her and Austin loves giving her high fives. Oh, and I haven't even cooked in two weeks - someone has brought us dinner every single night since we've been home. I have the best friends and family in the whole world!! Thanks to all of you who have brought food, brought gifts for the kids, stopped by to say hi - you are all wonderful!!
Ok - I really have to go to bed now - more later! Here's some pics to leave you with...
Big Brother and Big Sister!! Austin was soooo excited when they got to the hospital!

This is my sister Kimberly, she is holding Gabriella in the blanket that she made for her. She has made all of my kids a blanket when they were born. Then after we find out if it's a boy or girl she makes them a second blanket that is more gender specific. My kids are ATTACHED to these blankets. I will now have SIX of these blankets to haul around - thanks Aunt Kimmy!
Can you smile any bigger Grandma and Papa?!?!?!?!
